Estate Jewellery Sapphire and Diamond Pendant

Selling Your Estate Jewellery
in Ontario

There comes a time when, for whatever reason, you need to downsize your jewellery collection. Whether it’s to free up cash, pay off that loan, or even to buy different jewellery, the same problem pops up.

Who can you trust?

Jaja Gems has been buying estate jewellery collections in Ontario for over 6 years. We’re a trusted jewellery buyer in Ontario that’s known to offer high value for your items.

So where can you actually start selling jewellery in Ontario?

You have a few options. Pawn shops are fast, but they typically pay well below market value because reselling isn’t their specialty. Antique stores and consignment shops can take months to move your pieces, if they take them at all. Selling privately on Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji might fetch more, but it means meeting strangers, haggling, and payment risks, all without knowing what your jewellery is really worth. Instead, you may want a dedicated jewelry buyer. A jewellery buyer tests your items in front of you, while explaining exactly how your offer is calculated, and after everything they pay you on the spot. That’s the gap that Jaja Gems was built to fill: trust, education, and fair payment for jewellery.

Selling Inherited Jewellery

Selling inherited jewellery is often where our clients start. When you inherit a jewellery collection from a parent or grandparent, it’s hard to know what’s valuable, what’s costume, and what’s worth keeping in the family. Our testing and sorting process was designed for exactly this. We identify every piece, tell you honestly what you have, and help you separate the heirlooms worth passing down from the items worth selling.

But before we get to the payment, let’s talk about how our jewellery buying services operate.

How To Sell Your Estate Jewellery

Testing First

When you come into pieces of jewellery you’re wishing to liquidate, we first must make sure they are legitimate. At Jaja Gems we test every item. From the gemstones to the gold, silver, and other precious metals, we make sure that you know what you have and can gauge the payout for the customer.

Sorting Second

Secondly, we know you may want to hold a few items back or give them a second chance. After we’ve tested your precious metals and gemstones, and you know what you have, we ask our clients if there are any pieces of sentimental value or a certain je ne sais quoi which they wish to keep. Whether it’s to wear or pass down, the sorting phase helps with this. Furthermore, if you have a large amount of costume jewellery (cheap fashion jewellery) we also can take that off your hands.

Selling Your Jewellery Third

Now that you’ve given your collection that one last look, and separated any last items which you want to keep and liquidate, it’s time to pay you. We will weigh up your gold, silver and other jewellery items to formulate a price. We pay 22% below the spot price of your gold and platinum. For silver it can fluctuate depending on the market, but it’s around 40% of the spot price.

What if I have diamonds and other gemstones I want to sell?

Diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires are sold at a premium on top of the gold price with strict exceptions. For your natural gemstones to incur a premium on your offer, please note the following: Diamonds must be natural, certified, heavier than 0.85ct and in good condition (no chipping) with a clarity rating of I1 or clearer.

An Antique Rose Cut diamond
Here is an antique rose cut natural diamond set in 14k gold. To the untrained eye, this may look like any ordinary pendant. However, our in-house gemologist identified it as a natural diamond. Offering the owner a handsome payout for it.

Rubies, sapphires, and emeralds must be natural stones, with good clarity, colour, and decent cut to be considered in the price. Each must be over 0.90ct. Otherwise they are excluded from the gold weight of the piece.

For more details on selling solely gemstones, check out our gemstone buying page here.

Other stones considered semi precious will be excluded from the value except for in extreme circumstances. Buying gemstones is more art than science, but you can rest assured that we will offer a fair and reasonable price for your collection.
