Gold & Precious Metal Testing Services Ontario
Unsure if your jewellery is made of precious metal? Don’t worry we can help!
At Jaja Gems, we have extensive experience in helping clients determine if their treasured possessions are made from gold, silver, and even platinum metals. Whether it’s your antique jewelry, newly passed-down heirlooms, or even a few pieces of gold and silver you’d like to be sure of, we can give you the peace of mind of knowing you own legitimate precious metal.

How We Work
Our Metal Testing Process:
We handle every new metal testing inquiry like it’s an investigation. First, we visually inspect your items, research their backgrounds, and identify any surface or visual flaws. From the lustre of the gold or silver to its current surface state (chipping, cracks, bubbles) it’s vital to start every process with a visual inspection.
We then test its specific gravity and heft to further ensure there is no off-weighting. Then we employ our non-destructive gold testing tools such as a resistance meter and our gold, silver, and platinum testing acids. These shave a slight bit of gold off to remove any would-be plating. Afterwards, we’ll give you confirmation and a certificate showing the karat of gold, purity of silver and/or platinum, its weight, and fair market value – so you can be sure you’re getting the right value for your precious metals, or at least how much they’re worth at the moment!
01
Visual Metals Inspection
We begin with a close visual inspection of your items, assessing surface details, wear, markings, and craftsmanship to spot signs of authenticity or plating.
02
Metals Weighting and Research
Next, we measure the specific gravity and weight of your metals and research any relevant hallmarks or origin details to support accurate testing.
03
Tools and Further Analysis
Finally, we use professional, non-destructive tools like resistance meters and acid tests to confirm the karat and metal type, providing full certification.

Will This Be The Price or Value I Get at the Pawn Shop or Coin Store?
Sadly, for this service, we are solely telling you what the melt value of your precious metals is. If you take your precious metals to any pawn shop, dealer, gold buyer, coin store, or any other private seller, we can’t guarantee this is the price you’ll get. In fact, you’ll likely receive slightly under the melt value depending on where you go to sell your precious metals. In some cases, it can be as low as 10% to as high as 40%. However, we’re happy to advise you on where and how best to resell your metals, or if you should hold on for the investment value.
