Description

An immaculate Georgian era watch fob in 9ct gold, set with a rich carnelian stone carved by hand as a working seal with the initials “F.D”. Fobs like this were once everyday gentlemen’s accessories. They were worn on an Albert chain and used to press a personal mark into hot wax when sealing letters, so they tend to be very personal objects that have survived remarkably well.

The gold mount is in excellent condition with crisp detail. The carnelian is clean and nicely cut, and the engraved monogram is still sharp enough to take an impression. The warm reddish orange of the stone against the gold looks wonderful in person and the piece is very wearable.

It weighs over 10 grams, which gives it a satisfying heft in the hand. It makes a striking pendant on a chain of your choice, works equally well on a modern charm bracelet, and would suit any collection of Georgian jewellery, antique seals or old gold.

A real piece of history, and one that happens to carry someone’s initials. Ideal if yours are F.D., or as a thoughtful gift for someone whose are.
